Vermont Senators Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders support President Obama's 2011 spending plan, which includes $3.8 trillion in new spending.

Sanders, who serves on the Budget Committee in the Senate, says the spending plan will help many Vermonters. But a lot needs to be worked out.

"As a member of the Budget Committee, I am also going to focus on deficit reduction and making sure that all agencies of government, including the Pentagon, get scrutinized, and that we move as fast as possible to eliminate all of the Bush tax breaks given to the wealthy and large corporations."

Sanders says he supports spending more on health care programs, education, and renewable energy projects.

Senator Patrick Leahy also supports much of the President's plan, especially putting greater financial focus on organic farmers. It's been 20 years since the first organic farm bill was created and Leahy hopes to strengthen its standards.

"One of the things we have to do is make sure that the standards stay very strong, so that if it says organic, it means organic. The department of agriculture can do that through enforcement and this gives them the tools to do that."

President Obama's new budget gives the organic program a 44% increase to $10-million.
