Death By 1,000 Cuts
Written by on March 15, 2011, 01:49 PM
What we have instead is the political waltz - the two step. One step forward, one step back. It's like neither side wants to offend anyone...except the voters. The game is the "continuing resolution." No give. No take. No compromise. Just the two step. Both sides are afraid to put forth a real budget. Why? The GOP started with their election promise of cutting $100 billion. In real money, they were talking about $61 million. The Senate was willing to consider $41 million in cuts (which were not really cuts, but reductions in planned new spending by the Obama Administration). In real money cuts, they offered $4 billion and then agreed to kick in another $6 billion. That's the two step shuffle. The left is determined to maintain the status quo. The right is determined to protect its pledge to cut spending. Because neither side has enough votes to force its will on the other side, they have engaged in a series of continuing resolutions that simply maintain the status quo with the federal government temporarily living on last year's budget. And, that's the problem. The Ship of State is a rudderless ship that threatens to sink the economy. We need to get down to the business of creating a workable budget that addresses the fiscal dilemma this nation is facing---too much spending and too much debt. Please CLICK HERE to FAX every Member of the U.S. Congress to tell them to CUT the budget and CUT SPENDING. Slashing Spending is something that both sides must agree upon! Please also give a generous DONATION to AmeriPAC so we can communicate this last-ditch effort to motivate Congress to STOP SPENDING! Your grandchildren will also THANK YOU! Congress needs to pass another Continuing Resolution - but one with teeth. There has to be a price tag associated with heel-dragging because this government is now borrowing $4 billion dollars per day to operate the government---money that must be repaid by the taxpayers. The politicians need to understand the price for heel dragging comes out of the budget they can't agree on. The continuing resolution that expires on March 18 cuts $4 billion in programs and earmark spending. That's fine. The Continuing Resolution Congress will pass this week should contain the $4 billion the left gave up, plus the $6 billion the Senate threw in to counter the GOP's $41 billion demand. Let's do that. $10 billion in cuts in this Continuing Resolution. That's $14 billion in two CRs. Death by a thousand cuts. It works. Those in both Houses of Congress, on both sides of the aisle, need to understand the price for heel-dragging is now a twelve digit number. As long as they want to play political games and not get serious about creating a federal budget that addresses the financial crisis the current Administration has created, continuing resolutions are going to continue to be sharp carving knives trimming the pork through death by a thousand cuts until, using CRs as a tool to force serious budget negotiations, those who are determined to restore fiscal sanity to both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue are able to sit down and write a serious budget that works. WE CAN NO LONGER AFFORD LEGISLATORS WHO ARE CONTENT TO SPEND THE LEGACY OF OUR CHILDREN BY CREATING DEBT THAT SOME FUTURE GENERATION IS EXPECTED TO PAY BACK until we wake up one morning and discover that we are the generation that is expected to pay the piper only to discover there is no money in the taxpayers' pockets because their jobs left before their last dollar. As long as both sides of the aisle want to continue engaging in delaying actions, each side must be willing to pay for their delays by slashing earmarks that are nothing more than political paybacks, and new or existing programs that simply are not essential to the nation nor to those who are expected to pay for them---the taxpayers. $6 Billion is merely a starting point. As long as the Left continues to drag their heels with yet another delaying Continuing Resolution, they are merely keeping the government going on last year's dollars - re-borrowed without accounting this year. In short, each Continuing Resolution must KILL even more spending---at least DOUBLE what was in the previous CR. Then, and only then, will we see whether or not the Left is really SERIOUS about KILLING SPENDING! Again, that's why I call it: "DEATH BY 1,000 CUTS." If Congress has to pay for their delays, it will reach the point where they will sit down, in good faith, and negotiate a budget FOR THE PEOPLE and not their PARTY. ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE---there MUST be MUCH MORE expense cutting so your children and your grandchildren do not have to be "saddled" with this overburdened debt. Congress must start somewhere---and this is where we draw a line in the sand....IT MUST START NOW! The American people overwhelmingly voted in November, 2010 to KILL SPENDING, TO CUT EXPENSES AND, TO CUT OUR NATIONAL DEBT. Mr. Obama and his lieutenants in the U.S. Congress simply DON'T GET IT. The bottom line of what the majority of American voters really want is this: "YOU CANNOT SPEND WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE!" What a concept! I remember when my parents first taught me about my first allowance. It was very basic, but it was exactly the same advice that the American voters gave: "You cannot spend what you don't have!" We need to make it very clear to Congress that their job is to KILL SPENDING and SLASH EXPENSES. I need your help TODAY to help me to REMIND CONGRESS what the voters demanded of their elected officials in November. Congress is scheduled to take a break March 19 - 27. Mr. Obama is leaving the country March 19-23. Therefore, the Continuing Resolution must have commensurate SERIOUS BUDGET CUTS! Contrary to some of my friends and colleagues, I am against the government shutting down. I don't think it would be in the country's best interests for more reasons than I can enumerate. But, to make it possible to raise the debt ceiling, Congress must first learn how to say "NO" to itself and the White House. Second, when new spending is absolutely necessitated, spending cuts to more than match the raising of the debt ceiling. Then, thereafter, is the delaying tactic of a Continuing Resolution is used, the Budget Cuts Must DOUBLE! I agree with House Speaker John Boehner when he says that the debt limit will have to be raised. Boehner believes failure to raise the debt limit will result in defaults on loan obligations that will poses danger to the government's credit rating---an assessment he shares with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Let me be as straightforward as I possibly can: THERE ABSOLUTELY MUST BE SIGNIFICANT SPENDING CUTS And we must let every member of Congress and every U.S. Senator know this, before they add to the debt that my children and my grandchildren will have to pay! This is very serious. This is the last-ditch effort. If Democrats see a "weakness" in a Republican compromise this week, they will take that as a "green light" to come against any and every SPENDING CUT that is later proposed in the future. The time to "set the record straight" ON BEHALF OF THE AMERICAN VOTER is right now! Will you please help us to communicate with every single United States Congressman? Whether your Congressman is on the Left or the Right---they must embrace SERIOUS SPENDING CUTS! THIS WEEK will give precedence for the future of our economy. That's why you must tell your Congressman to KILL SPENDING RIGHT NOW! If they continue procrastinating by writing more and more "Continuing Resolutions" instead of negotiating a budget, the spending cuts attached to each must DOUBLE every time they drag their heels. DEATH BY 1,000 CUTS
is the only measure that will force them to sit down and negotiate in good faith. Please CLICK HERE to FAX every Member of the U.S. Congress to tell them to CUT the budget and CUT SPENDING. Your grandchildren will also THANK YOU! I totally agree with Mike Steele, spokesman for John Boehner, when he said: "The speaker has made it clear that while the president is begging us to raise the debt limit without cutting spending that is obviously unacceptable to the American people. We need to cut spending and institute the necessary reforms that allow us to keep cutting." Even though we are urging for MORE SPENDING CUTS, we also realize what we are facing: the "entitlement attitude" that Mr. Obama and his minions are promoting. Here is what Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says: "The fact is, even if Congress were to pass the biggest cuts that have been proposed so far, it still won't put a dent in the fiscal problems that we face as a result of the unsustainable growth in entitlement spending. Think about it: Democrats have been waging war this week over their proposal to cut a mere $4.7 billion. Meanwhile, the amount of money Washington has promised to spend on programs like Social Security and Medicare - money we don't have - is about $52 trillion." He goes on to say: "To put that in perspective, consider that the total unfunded liability in all 50 states combined totals about $3 trillion, a situation that is leading to political paralysis and public protests. It's impossible to overstate the urgency of reforming entitlements. So the recent debate in Washington over discretionary spending is just a dress rehearsal for the big stuff - and so far Democrats are showing they're just not up to it. They either lack the stomach or the courage, and President Obama, as members of his own party point out, is nowhere to be found on the issue!" If we can't trim a paltry two percent from this year's budget, what signal does that send to credit markets? What signal does that send to future generations who will have to pay for Washington's lack of courage? As you can see from the growing stream of continuing resolutions, it's much easier to pass the buck---our grandchildren's buck---to someone else. In Barack Obama's 2011 budget proposal, the federal government will spend $3.8 TRILLION---$1.6 TRILLION more than it would take in! Regardless of the compromise reached to keep the federal government operating, BOTH sides of the aisle must comprehend what the voters last November demanded:

Please also give a generous DONATION to AmeriPAC so we can communicate this last-ditch effort to motivate Congress to STOP SPENDING! Your grandchildren will also THANK YOU! Here is something to seriously consider: The budget numbers do NOT add up. As Barack Obama's own Office of Management and Budget admits, in 2015, the federal government will be taking in about $3.6 Billion in revenues, but plans on spending $4.2 Billion that year. That's because on top of new spending, in 2015 alone, we will be paying $494 Billion in INTEREST ON OUR DEBT! Interest!! That means that nearly 12% of all spending will go just towards paying off our creditors. Much of this interest is owed on the roughly $3 Trillion in debt that Mr. Obama and the Democratically-controlled 111th Congress amassed in only 25 months. We must act responsibility today to get our Congressmen and Senators in step with the fiscal convictions of an overwhelming majority of the American people. WE CAN'T SPEND WHAT WE DON'T HAVE, AND WE CAN'T BORROW WHAT WE CAN'T PAY BACK. Help us send that word to Congress! Tell them we expect them to negotiate a fiscally-sound budget that does not spend more than the government currently has...and, until then, we expect them to whittle away at the excesses in the proposed 2011 budget, and kill unspent appropriations in 2010 budget...DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS. I look forward to your response because I know how you feel about your grandchildren paying for something Mr. Obama permits to go through Congress! Sincerely, Alan Gottlieb Chairman, AmeriPAC P. S. Will another short-term "Continuing Resolution" be enough? NO. Congress needs to understand where we stand: KILL THE SPENDING! KILL THE UNSPENT APPROPRIATIONS. Let them suffer the consequences of DEATH by 1,000 CUTS! Please CLICK HERE to FAX every Member of the U.S. Congress to tell them to CUT the budget and CUT SPENDING.
