AmeriPAC Blog Posts:December 14, 2011, 11:49 AM One year ago today, The Washington Post published its “Hidden Life of Guns” article exposing how under-regulated gun sales along the Mexican border were sending firearms into that country feeding its crime and instability. The paper’s four-reporter team operated as full-partners of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives PR department receiving internal statistics, documents and even an interrogation video. One of the two gun stores were correctly singled out by the Post: Lone Wolf in Arizona and Carter Country in Texas. But, one year later, we know it was for the wrong reasons. November 07, 2011, 10:45 PM The federal government has sent a collection notice to the family of a Border Patrol agent who was jailed and fined for pulling on the arms of a handcuffed suspect to get him to comply with orders, according to a charitable organization working on a defense for Jesus E. Diaz Jr. WND reported earlier on a call for Congress to hold hearings to uncover why U.S. law enforcement officers are being charged, prosecuted and sent to prison for apparently doing what their jobs require. That call came from President Andy Ramirez of the Law Enforcement Officers Advocates Council, which is working on Diaz' case. The officer was sentenced to 24 months in jail and fined nearly $7,000 for his conviction based on the testimony of a drug smuggler who was given immunity to testify. March 11, 2011, 07:15 PM Gov. Rick Scott’s pledge to bring an Arizona-style immigration law to Florida probably won’t happen, but a House committee voted Thursday to bring him the next best thing. The new Florida immigration reform plan would require police to check the immigration status of a person who is under arrest or is the subject of a criminal investigation. That language stops short of Arizona’s controversial law, which requires police to determine a person’s immigration status whenever the officer makes “any lawful contact” with the individual. This time it is California which wishes to not only adopt similar legislation, but feels the Arizona law should become the national immigration law enforcement norm. Arizona’s SB 1070 drew national and international criticism for provisions backing the federal requirement to ensure appropriate identification was carried by legal aliens. January 04, 2011, 07:29 PM Newly sworn in Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says he'll help defend SB1070, the controversial law targeting illegal immigration. Horne took the oath of office during the inauguration Monday. He is a Republican who replaces Democrat Terry Goddard as attorney general. December 30, 2010, 08:24 PM Get ready for some states to try for Arizona-style immigration laws. Gov.-elect Nikki Haley, R-S.C., is among the state chiefs who want to crack down on illegal immigration with legislation that is similar or tougher than Arizona's statute, which allows law enforcement to check on legal status if there is reason to believe someone is in the U.S. illegally.
